Narrative Assessment - Writing - 10 Mar 2016

Learner:  Jennings                   Learning Coach:  Talia Morgan       Date: 10 Mar 2016
Learning Area: Literacy - Writing
Learning Observed
Today I modelled a story for the learners, with their help. I modelled a story about somewhere I had been in the past - “I went to school”. Jennings went off to do independent writing and was able to write down the same story we had modelled and written together, without any learning coach help and without an alphabet card. Jennings also illustrated his story with a picture of our school. He was also able to write within the lines.
Evidence of learning
Jennings was able to write down our modelled story all by himself. What a huge improvement!
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Jennings is developing his Capabilities in his writing. He was able to work by himself to write our modelled story without any learning coach help (Managing Self). Jennings is starting to form his letters correctly and listen to the sounds they make when recording them (Using language, symbols and text). He was able to Think about our modelled story and write it.
Next Learning Steps
  • Explicit teaching on correct use of capital letters.
  • Explicit teaching on correct letter formation.
  • Continue to teach finding the basic words on the word card.
  • Continue to teach finding the sounds of initial letters on the word card to record for a story.
  • Share learning with home.
